It’s time to dive into the 30-day challenge.

The goal of the 30-day challenge is to push you to grow as much as possible. Each day, we’re taking one action that creates value for others without expectation of anything in return.

For ActionWins, this means creating a ton of content and a few free software products. In order to be successful, you need to get your systems and tools in place, know what your audience needs are, and have an idea for how you can create value for that audience.

Know your audience

One of my favorite blogs right now is Grow And Convert. A while back they wrote an article called “You Don’t Know Your Customers And It’s Crippling Your Growth”. We’ve all been guilty at some point of building something that we thought was a great idea without first fully understanding who we’re building for and whether or not it’s something they really want.

The bottom line is you can’t create value for others if you don’t understand them.

So, for the first 7 days of the challenge, your job is to talk with people in your audience or market so that you can find out how you’re going to help them. First, come up with a hypothesis of what you can do for them to create value. Maybe this is a free consultation, a critic of their website, or an audit of their sales funnel. Whatever it might be, try to talk with one customer each day the first week either in person or over the phone.

Check out the article on Grow and Convert for more about how to gather data from your existing audience. If you’re starting from scratch, call or cold email people who you think might be in your audience. Remember, the goal here is to understand their needs so you can create value for them.

What are ideas for things we can do or create for others?

A lot of people struggle when they first start trying to create value. Doing this every day can seem daunting. It’s really important to focus on your strengths and on what you enjoy doing. I’m a decent writer but cranking out articles isn’t my strength. So, I’m focusing on what I’m both good at and what I enjoy, writing code and teaching through screencasts. I have over 7 years of experience as an educator at every level from Kindergarten to corporate professional development. I’m also a self-taught developer and love turning my ideas into reality.

When you’re coming up with ideas for the value you can create, think about what you enjoy and what you’re good at.

My last challenge to you is to invite at least one other person to join you in this 30-day challenge. I’ve realized as the community has grown that a big part of the value we’re creating is just having others to help push us along.
